When our Auckland client approached us, their brief was simple: a low-maintenance decking area that looked great, stayed cool underfoot, and met council compliance. They wanted something durable, modern, and easy to install — without the hassle of grout, concrete, or ongoing upkeep.

The Foundation: J Vice™ Ground Screws
To start, the deck was built on J Vice™ ground screws, eliminating the need for concrete footings. This system allows for fast installation, minimal disruption, and an environmentally friendly foundation that performs exceptionally well in New Zealand’s diverse soil conditions.
The Structure: Aluminium Joists with Corna Keepa™
We then installed Anchorjak™ long-span aluminium joists with our Corna Keepa™ framing system, designed to hold perfect alignment and prevent movement or “clunking” that can occur with traditional floating decks.
This setup provides a solid yet lightweight structure capable of spanning large areas — ideal for elevated or uneven sites often found around Auckland homes.
The Surface: 20 mm Structural Porcelain Tiles
For the surface finish, we used 20 mm structural porcelain tiles and coping from Anchorjak™, creating a permeable, grout-free deck that drains efficiently while maintaining a sleek, modern look.
These tiles are low-heat, stain-resistant, and easy to clean, making them perfect for poolside or patio environments.
The Finishing Touch: Glass Vice® and Finrail™
To complete the project, the area was fenced with Glass Vice® frameless glass fencing for uninterrupted views, paired with Finrail™ aluminium detailing for added strength and architectural definition.
The combination delivered both safety and sophistication, ensuring full NZ building code compliance for balustrades and pool fencing.
